Context vs. Dimension

Hi all,

So I'm going through the post-installation steps of SSM 10.4 and setting up the Demo HFPBM model for project team training and POC (http://scn.sap.com/thread/3417751). In the meantime... we start to prepare for what follows the Demo next week. So here are a few of our requirements and concerns if anyone cares to pitch in.

Business requirements in terms of "Context" modelling:

1. Org Units: Corporate + 8 Countries + 1 Consolidation Group (4 countries)

2. There's a Corporate Scorecard + a Scorecard for each Country (countries share/cascade objectives with Corporate) + Scorecard for Consolidation Group of 4 countries.

3. Organizational structure should be:

     -> Corporate

         ->> Region A (Cons Group)

               ->>> Country A

               ->>> Country B

               ->>> Country C

               ->>> Country D

          ->> Country E

          ->> Country F

          ->> Country G

          ->> Country H

4. Scorecards are presented to the Board Quarterly. Not expecting to have more than 150 monthly KPIs for all contexts. Countries and Corporate share at least 50% of KPIs and (cascading) Objectives.

5. 25-35% of KPIs can be retrieved from SAP BW (7.02), but our strategy is to first go for an "Entry and Approval" method and then switch over to "automatic" update from BW in the short future. Does this seem reasonable?

6. Approximately 100 people are involved in the KPI gathering (entry) process. This will not be greatly reduced with "automation" from BW (in the short term) as most KPIs that can be automated are from a single business unit (single group of users. i.e. Finance!)

7. Financials are reported in a single currency

8. End-users should be 50+ and must be restricted to relevant context

Other Requirements:

9. Use BW 7.02 and BI 4.0 extensively and would like to use BW (Webi?) for SSM KPI "automation" and BO (Webi + Dashboards) for detailed repoting on SSM data

And that's about it for this post! So here's where we start to ponder with modelling issues! Nice!

Questions regarding modelling:

1. One model and database for all Org Units? One model per Org Unit?

2. Or just one model and create a template "Corporate" context, add "Dimension" = "Country" to the model and then just copy according to our org structure filtering Contexts by this Dimension? We assume roles will be created accordingly to grant/restrict access individual contexts. If this were the case, can we define "Metric Sets" so as to have users per KPI per Country? Are there other implications or considerations besides E+A?

Other concerns:

3. What-skill sets are required for the modelling and PAS Administrators? Besides being adept at BW (and BO) just MDX?

4. For BW-sourced KPIs should we go "on the fly" or "cached" PAS Model integration. There's a thread on poor SSM 10.0 performance vs. SSM 7.5 Any heads up here?

I know these may seem silly to some (and probably will be to me too in a couple of weeks),  but bear in mind were just getting started here (haven't had much "cockpit" time besides basic training and our demo which is not yet online) So ALL help and guidance is greatly appreciated and much anticipated.

I'm sure we'll be coming up with more interesting topics in the near future. I'll try to document my progress here for the benefit of the community and those starting to implement SSM 10.0.

Regards,

Rodolfo
